Antioch Plans For New Chinese Historical District.

ANTIOCH, CA. — C.C. and Regina Yin, founders of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA), presented a $10,000 payment to the Antioch Chinese History Museum and Planning Project in December to meet their June promise. The Yin pledge was made during the signing ceremony for the Antioch City Council's resolution apologizing for the city's prejudice against Chinese immigrants in the late 1800s. The Antioch City Council issued a formal apology to all early Chinese immigrants and their descendants, trying to address the enduring effects of mistreatment of Chinese immigrants that occurred more than 140 years ago. Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe delivered the apology and resolution to the community and supporters, including APAPA representatives, the Yins. City leaders have promised to establish a Chinatown Historic District, complete with murals and museum exhibits highlighting the city's broad and significant Asian history and accomplishments.
